Hi All! I think we have decided to stick with the national movement and have a 4th of July Tea Party here in Broward County. I was against this from the beginning, but we are going to try and make it work.
We can do it one of two ways...a morning protest or an afternoon evening family BBQ and protest.
To do the family BBQ, we would have to rent out part of a park, which will take a good amount of money. That is one thing to consider.
Anyone have any ideas of when, where, how to raise money, etc?

Hi Lauren, I'm in for $50.00. Say when and where to send a check and to whom it should be endorsed to. Joel

Although the BBQ sounds like fun it would be tuff to organize. Also, it would be very difficult to predict how many people will show up. The morning protest would be much easier to organize. But either way if you need help let me know.

Should we stick to a morning protest in order to make sure our protest isn't lost in a celebration? It would need to be in a highly visible area since that is not a work day the roads will be less traveled. Could we do something on A1A right outside of Hugh Taylor Birch? That way those who want to relax and BBQ afterward would have quick access to the park and I am sure the beach will have a high volume of traffic.

Would love to go to DC but can't. Unfortunately, I will have to remain part of the So. Fl. contingency.
In Fl. it should definitely be a morning event (it always rains in the afternoon) in a place where we can "gather" not be split up over blocks behind barricades.
I salute Lauren for getting the 4/15 event together- it was great- but I think we should try to get a more cohesive venue. I don't have any idea about permits but I'm willing to help if someone points me in the right direction.

We can do it one of two ways...a morning protest or an afternoon evening family BBQ and protest.? All of that would depend on the goal of the protest. Is it to bring attention to the cause or a networking between those who already support the cause? In my opinion if the purpose is to gather attention then I’m thinking afternoon beachside bring your own snacks and drinks with A1A providing a good amount of traffic to see the message and hopefully a fireworks show to climax the evening. If it’s networking then a quiet park would serve well. Either way if food is involved I would recommend selling meal tickets in advance as it gives you a base number of what you will need to have catered for the event. Wayne

Great news! Whatever is decided I am fine with - but the BBQ idea does sound rather impractical to me.
Hubby and I will be there.

These are good ideas. I am going to meet with Allen West and Joyce Kaufman tomorrow at noon to figure out more details. I will post as soon as the meeting is over.

I'm glad we are continuing to move forward and hopefully can get the word out so the attendance is even higher this time. I think a morning event would be better so that those who are doing the family and friends thing would still be able to protest in the morning and attend their parties in the afternoon and evening. It would be great if we could all gather in one area instead of spread out on different corners and maybe a sound system with some great speakers. I am willing to donate also just say the word.
THANKS AGAIN LAUREN!

One of the main reasons for our protest is that our children & grandchildren will be inheriting this debt. Not to be picky, but our children or grandchildren cannot inherit this debt, an inheritance is by definition the passing something of value usually from the older generation to the younger and while debt technically has value, the debt we are referring to in this case does not. This is for a lack of a better definition is selling the youngin’s into slavery. Wayne

I have concerns about the events becoming partisan, which in the long run could hurt our efforts. I spoke with many people and that is one point they feel strongly about as well. We need to keep our focus on why we are there and not offend someone who feels strongly drawn to a particular party, but is never the less unhappy with the direction this present administration is taking. We should have a positive attitude toward all who are upset with Washington. A committee made up of a good cross section of people could draw a greater number of people and create a strong unity to further our effort to make a difference. Most people are not aware of the Tea Parties much less what they are about. I don't expect Lauren to take all of this on herself so we would need to volunteer to brainstorm to get the word out. Lauren along with Joyce and others did a great job. Now it is time for others to take a more active part. My family passed out 450 flyers and talked with as many people as possible but I feel this was somewhat inefficient.

Hi Lauren, There is a nice public park in Margate and the name of it is Veterens Memorial: www.margatefl.com/parks/index.htmlIt might be a nice place to get together. Maybe would could protest earlier on Sample and 441, there's a lot of traffic there. Don't you think we should move around a bit in Broward County or are we just sticking to Ft. Lauderdale?

Hi Lauren, This was linked to me through another information site, and I do not know if you are aware or even interested. If you are interested the link address is: www.nationwidechicagoteaparty.comI have tested the link. It does work.
