Sen. Nelson 202-224-5274
Sen. Martinez 202-224-3041
Rep. Klein 202-225-3026
Also call both the Senate and House Budget committees:
Senate Budget office: 202/224-0642
House Budget office: 202/226-7200
Here are some key talking points:
1. I oppose the Obama budget and any budget that imposes a carbon tax.
2. I oppose any new taxes in the budget, and am outraged that the President and Congress are adding trillions to our national debt.
3. I oppose all attempts to tax and spend our way to prosperity.
4. I oppose leaving a legacy of debt to our children and grandchildren.
(Special thanks to Tim Mclellan for these!)

Talking points SHOULD be Short as possible. Just long enough to describe your idea to someone, while taking a short elevator ride. MiM

Do we have people from our group who are contacting Representatives/Senators to officially invite them?
It's probably important for our message to get an official response of who will stand with us and who begs off.

I am going to do that at the beginning of this week. If I have any trouble getting people...I will come back here and elect other people to call them and hassle them as well!

I don't like to be negative - but before the stimulus package was passed, I emailed Senator Bill Nelson voicing my dissatisfaction & asking that he vote against it. I stated that they needed more time to consider it. I got back what appeared to be a form letter stating that this was a crisis situation & there was no time - that the bill had to be passed immediately. I doubt he even looked at my letter - the response was probably sent by one of his "underlings". I sent another email to him concerning the next "Pork" legislation & once again, received a similar type form letter. I'm not sure contacting our elected officials will have any real effect. It can't hurt but I have my doubts. Of course, I am only one person - a mass attack may work.

I also emailed Senators Nelson & Martinez, & Rep Ron Klein. I too received that same form response. I don't feel they care what we think either. My Mom emails Mr Obama & tons of representatives all the time. The only seemingly true reply she's received was from her local Jacksonville rep. I wish they would listen.

Below is copy of the one-page letter I recently sent to the DC offices of my elected officials. I will resend to the local address I see here.
Congressman / Senator XXX,
This is one of the first letters I have ever written to a politician. I am not normally inclined to speak out politically but I am very concerned about the irresponsible spending spree that my government seems to be on.
I work hard, try to stay within a budget, and, if times get tough, I don’t have the option of giving myself a raise like the government does when they raise my taxes. I can only make cuts or get an extra job. I cancel vacations, sell excess items, cut costs, delay major purchases, etc. Why can’t the government tighten their belt? It just doesn’t seem that complex to me.
In these times, when nearly everyone is cutting back, the government has the nerve to propose BIG new programs, propose more taxes, and borrow more money. If I ran my house that way it wouldn’t be long before I would be bankrupt, which may be where the country as whole will end up if we don’t shape up. I know it is hard to be a bad guy and say ‘NO’ when it is easier to say ‘YES’, but the rest of us out here in the ‘real world’ have to do it all the time.
We are counting on you to do the right thing, not the easy thing. Doing the right thing is seldom easy. Sacrifice is usually difficult, more so if it is you that is doing the sacrificing, but sometimes it must be done. Now is one of those times.
I am now paying careful attention to how my elected officials are voting and if they seem to support fiscal irresponsibility, I will vote for the other guy, regardless of party.
I will be at the Tax Day Tea Party in Fort Lauderdale on April 15th. I understand that Congress won’t be in session. Maybe you should go to a Tea Party and visit with some of your most passionate constituents (the people that hired you). It may be the perfect venue since so many will be gathered in one place for a common political purpose. Just a thought.
Respectfully,
Napoleon

I emailed Wasserman a few times and all I received was a standard form letter. The last time I wrote a few of them I asked not to send a bs form letter but a real letter. It's been a few weeks now.I have not as of yet received anything. (go figure) You all have to remember they are trying to push through all their preconceptions of how the country should be and they have limited time to do it. SO what we think in not important. They know that They will more than likely get reelected anyway not no matter what anyone says.

Adam: I took the liberty of taking some excerpts from you letter and incorporated into my e-mail I forwarded to Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman. See my e-mail and Debbie Wasserman's response from her office WE THE PEOPLE are paying careful attention to how our elected officials are voting and if they seem to support fiscal irresponsibility, I will vote for the right guy, regardless of party, providing that person is running for the American people, stands by our Constitution and not afraid to stand up to unpopular issues. One issue that is very close to my heart, and should be yours as well, is Israel. I wouldn't mind if my tax money was going to the Palestinian people that live in squalor and refugee camps. Unfortunately there is no way to control it and the money will wind up in the hands of Hamas. I also do not want any negotiations with Iran until they give up the thought of destroying Israel. I will be at the Tax Day Tea Party in Fort Lauderdale on April 15th. I understand that Congress won’t be in session. WE THE PEOPLE are asking you to attend the Tea Party and visit with some of your most passionate constituents (the people that hired you). It may be the perfect venue since so many will be gathered in one place for a common political purpose. Veeeeeeeeery interesting. The Wasserman response makes no reference to your comments about Israel, Hamas, Iran or the Tax Day Tea Party invitation. Obviously, as usual, a form letter.
