The Undercurrent is a student-run newspaper that is distributed at college campuses across the United States. It represents a unique point of view, advocating freedom, individual rights, limited government, and capitalism. Most importantly, it provides a moral defense for man’s right to his own life, liberty, property, and pursuit of happiness. It is this moral argument that will help the Tea Party movement convey a cohesive message.
As the Independence Day Tea Parties approach, we would like to offer you the chance to promote and order a special summer publication of The Undercurrent for distribution at your events. This issue of The Undercurrent will feature articles that address the causes of the financial and economic problems the Tea Parties are protesting—and offer solutions to these problems. The root of our nation’s crisis today is not simply an increased level of taxation, but a fundamental turning away from the fact that the government has no right to interfere in the lives of individual American citizens. Although America was founded on a dedication to the sovereignty of the individual, both Democrats and Republicans have betrayed their obligation to protect individual rights. Until there is a major cultural change, abuses will continue to be perpetrated by those in Washington elected to protect us. This Fourth of July, The Undercurrent wants to help bring about that change by reminding Americans of the sole purpose of government: the protection of individual rights. Distributing The Undercurrent at protests is a perfect way to give Tea Party supporters the intellectual ammunition they need to make a real and lasting difference.
